Cost of Fearless
Something that I was pondering over these few days. What happens if someone writes a novel about you, using your name and some events in your life. In order to make the novel sellable, that someone adds or modifies certain information or events that never happened. What if those information or events actually tarnish your name? Was that why the recent movie Fearless got sued? Even though I thought it was a really nice show that illustrated good wushu spirit from the 180 degree change in the main character Huo Yuan Jia, however events such as the death of his entire family and the bad ass attitude was never a part of the real Huo Yuan Jia. Should we still say it's a good movie? From a movie maker's point of view, those addition events actually help make the movie stand out. But should it be done at the expense of someone's reputation? Sure a false name can be used, but it will not hold as much significance as a real name would. How about Da Vinci's Code? We can still read it as a book, knowing that those historical events never happened, but should it be done at the expense of Jesus's name? Artistic license, some may say in the Passion of Christ, and even the Prince of Egypt has many inaccuracies if we judge them according to Biblical Scriptures. But I don't deny that they may be nice and edifying to some. Still, should it be done at certain expenses? I am still wondering...
